Be Instant In Season And Out Of Season

July 1 2014

We go through periods in our lives when things are just fantastic and we feel great! Then suddenly things take a turn for the worst and we find ourselves in a season of heaviness. Unfortunately if we don’t intentionally reflect on the past and the good times we have enjoyed, the bad times will eclipse the good times and almost erase away their memories entirely. The Bible tells us that during these difficult times, our faith will be tried and the faith of some will become “shipwrecked.”

In 11 Timothy 4:2, we see where Paul advises Timothy that he should be “instant in season or out of season.” What Paul was really telling Timothy who was facing hard times was that he had been given a post and that he should stand firm or be faithful to the position that he had been assigned. Whether times were good (in season) or bad (out of season), Timothy should stay at his post, his place of responsibility and dig in and resolve to be faithful.

As we journey through life, we too must learn to dig in and be faithful during the challenging times. It is not a time to run in fear or look for someone to take our place. Dark clouds may appear, but they eventually pass. The sun will come out and the birds will sing again.

Jesus will give you the grace you need to stand tall and to remain faithful. He will do His part, but you have to do your part.
