Learned Optimism

August 1 2014

“Learned Optimism” is a book that I have had in my library for years. It essentially instructs its readers on how to be positive about everything irrespective of how bad things might actually be. For example, never look at the glass as half empty, but see it half full. If you fall, pick yourself up and keep moving. Keep the right attitude in spite of turbulent times and challenges that confront us. These are just some of the key thoughts that are conveyed.

I believe books that are similar to “Learned Optimism” are good for us to read and to put into practice. We can learn a lot from those readings especially if they are filled with testimonies from real practitioners who can demonstrate that they are successful. I have tried some of them myself and they can definitely improve your way of thinking.,P> We have always been able to learn and develop from the wisdom of men who are not in a relationship with God. I don’t recall seeing Jesus name mentioned anywhere in that book so I assume that the author was not a Christian. If man’s wisdom can instruct us and guide us to improve our overall performance and change our attitude and outlook on things, I wonder what impact God’s wisdom can have on our lives.

Every time I read the Bible, I have a change in my attitude and my outlook on life. If I had a negative thought about something or felt disgusted, The Bible has a way of changing the way I look at things. When we look at things from God’s point of view and understand the bigger picture, our perspective changes.

If you want to learn optimism, it’s okay to read books that will inspire you and influence your thinking. However, the best book that you can read to transform you into an optimist is the “Book of Life.” In the twinkling of an eye, your life can be changed from one that complains about many things to one that blesses the Lord at all times and continuously has praise in our mouths. That’s real learned optimism.
