Reach Out and Touch Somebody

Reach Out and Touch Somebody In 1970, Diana Ross released one of her greatest hits entitled “Reach Out and Touch Somebody’s Hand.” Here are some of the lyrics to the song:
Make this world a better place if you can
Take a little time out of your busy day
To give encouragement
To someone who’s lost their way
Or would I be talking to a stone
If I asked you
To share a problem that’s not your own
We can change things if we start giving
Upon reading the lyrics, one can see that the fundamental premise underlying the song is one of outreach. It suggests that if we take the time to reach out to others, help them find their direction and give them encouragement, that this world would be a better place.
Sometimes we ask ourselves how we can reach out to others when we have our own issues in life that we are dealing with. We can’t tear ourselves away from them long enough to consider what others may be going through and how we might be able to be a blessing to them. Our blessing people do not always have to have pecuniary implications. It could be just sharing time listening to others, giving words of encouragement, sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ and giving testimonies about God’s goodness based on our experiences.
When Jesus died and resurrected, He told us to go into all the world and preach the gospel. His goal obviously was for us to do outreach. This outreach that He commissioned us to do was to make this world a better place and prepare us for eternity. Someone reached out to you and me and now it is time for us to reach out to others.
Let’s make the world a better place.
