The Art of Setting Goals

January 1 2015

As we prepare to enter into a new year, many of us will set goals that we will abandon within three months. Although we start out with vigor, drive, strong determination and pseudo-commitment, our schedules ultimately become too busy, priorities collide and pretty soon our motivation starts to wane. This becomes very frustrating because many of the goals are repeats from the prior years that never seem to get any real traction. Therefore, we find ourselves in somewhat of a cycle that never seems to end.

I would like to suggest that you take a different approach this year. Before you start to formulate any new goals for 2015, sit down and seek the mind of God. Since He already knows what lies ahead, He can prevent you from setting goals that will be interrupted or never have any possibility of being achieved. He can help you develop very practical and realistic goals that are quantifiable and measurable. More importantly, He will guide you in the direction of creating goals that have significance and purpose for your life now and eternity.

Since God is interested in all aspects of our lives, we should acknowledge Him in all of our ways and then allow Him to direct our paths. And if we commit our works to Him, He will establish our thoughts. God wants us to succeed because He loves us and wants the very best for us. We can’t go wrong with what He sets as priorities in our lives. Not only will He help us with the priorities, but He will assist us with the plans that we need to accomplish our goals. We have a tendency to make things difficult, but God lightens our load because of the strength and focus that He gives to us.

We always prosper in Christ. So let’s make sure we involve Him in everything that we do. Even in the simple task of goal setting. We’ll find ourselves getting more accomplished and having a greater feeling of satisfaction.

Let God do a new thing in your life in 2015.
