How does it make you feel for someone to make you a promise and never keep it? I can tell you that it really bothers me. I have a hard time understanding why anyone would give you their word and think nothing about living up to it. If they offered an explanation that would make me feel better, but to say nothing implies that either they don't think much of their word or much of the person to whom they made the promise.
I have noticed over the years that Christians don't always do what they say they will do. This is not good. As followers of Christ, we should be committed to keeping our word even if it is to our own hurt. Christ who was the embodiment of truth never promised something and did not deliver. Our failure to keep our word is a bad testimony especially to nonbelievers. It gives them one more excuse for not accepting Jesus as Lord. They look at us and say there is no difference, I lie and so do they.
God said in Psalms 89:34 that He would not break His covenant and that He would not alter the thing that has gone out of His lips. We should have the same commitment. Our word should be our bond. He also said in Numbers 23:
