Fear

December 1 2016

One of the tactics that the enemy uses is fear. He wants to make us afraid and fill us with horror so that we can’t be effective in the kingdom of God. This strategy that he uses is not new, but one that he has used for ages and it is quite effective. When fear grips us it paralyzes us and we can’t move forward. It robs us of what God designed and intends for us to become. We see this throughout the Bible. When God commissioned Moses, he was afraid and had to be reassured by God before he could lead Israel out of Egypt. If we allow the enemy to have his way, we can’t progress and in many ways become imprisoned in our own minds.

I was having lunch with one of our executives the other day. She has decided to retire and work for herself as a leadership consultant. I always admired her ability to stand in front of an audience and speak. She is very captivating. However, she shared with me how fear has overcome her as she is now embarking on the next chapter in her life. She has been the keynote speaker recently at several business conferences and the rooms have been filled to capacity. In spite of her natural ability to arouse and captivate an audience, she has fear. I was surprised when I heard her say that questions pop in her mind that try to get her off track. For example, she said a voice will say to her, these people don’t want to hear you. What do you have to offer to them? If you knew her the way I know her, you would never suspect that she would be afraid to stand in front of an audience. As a matter of fact, you would think that this is her true “calling”. In spite of the fear, she is pressing forward.

The enemy speaks to us and tries to convince us that we can’t do certain things. And if we try it, we are certain to fail. This produces fear and if we are intimidated, we won't pursue our dreams or the things that God has planned for us. I want to encourage you to take a stand and step out on faith and believe in yourself. God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power and love and a sound mind. If God is for us, who can be against us. Find Scriptures to strengthen you and then go for it. Your victory will be a great testimony for someone else.
