What Are Your Children Learning From You

September 1 2018

Whatever we do in front of our children contributes to what they ultimately become. Whether we realize it or not, they are paying attention to what we are saying and how we conduct ourselves. And it doesn’t matter if they are adolescences, teenagers or young adults. They are all taking copious notes. Therefore, we should not be surprised when we see ourselves reflected in them.

It is incumbent upon us to set the right example for our children to follow. Are we behaving in ways that we want them to copy so we can take pride in the way they conduct themselves or would we be embarrassed? If it is the latter, we have no one to blame but ourselves. They watched and replicated all that they saw us do. Unfortunately for us, we are not always conscious of the way we are behaving. We’ve been doing it for so long, that it is natural. When we see our children acting out, we question where they picked up those bad traits. It is not until we stop and examine them carefully that we have this rude awakening about ourselves.

As Christian parents, we should reflect the glory of God because He lives and dwells on the inside of us. The fruit of the Spirit should be evident to our family first and then to those that are without. That only happens when we walk in the Spirit and allow Him to guide and direct us. When that occurs, we are at our best and our children are inspired to replicate what they see in us.

Since we as parents have the power of influence, let’s make sure we set the right example for them to follow. As we see them grow into young adults, we can take pride in how they turned out.
