God Welcomes Our Visits

As I was reading the 25th Proverb recently, I saw something in verse 17 that I had not paid much attention to in the past. It says that if you visit your neighbor too often, you will wear out your welcome. Most people work and have families. When they get home, they spend all available time with their spouses and children catching up on the day or helping their children with homework. Then they want to relax and prepare for the next day. An occasional visit from a neighbor is not bad and probably welcome for most adults. However, too many visits will get in the way of family time and time used to wind down from the day. A person could get to the point where they say to a spouse or even their children, that individual comes over too often and I like them, but I can’t fill the void in their life or I am just too busy to entertain them.

I think we can understand why a person would feel that way. As humans we can only take so much of another individual invading our space. It is amazing that God does not share those same feelings. We can visit with him every single day and as much as we want within the twenty four hours of the day and he never grows weary from our time with Him. He doesn’t mind our talking to Him or even our complaining. We can come as often as we like and He delights himself in the time we spend with him. As a matter of fact He actually looks forward to it. We can’t wear Him out.

As we head into the new- year (2020), we should plan to spend more time visiting with God. Whatever time we spent with Him in 2019, we should plan to increase it. I am grateful that He is open to my visits and will never make me feel as if I am intruding on His time. We have a loving, kind and patient Father. There is no one like Him in heaven or in the earth.
