A Little Rain

December 1 2020

I think we all agree that rain is needed to water the earth. We can’t survive without it. When we don’t get enough, we complain and call it a drought. When we get too much, it causes creeks and rivers to overflow and flooding occurs. Rain that comes with tropical storms and hurricanes can really cause destruction that could take years to overcome. We’d be happy with just enough rain and no hurricanes or tropical storms.

Into each one of our lives, a little rain must fall. Rain for us comes in the form of the challenges we face in life. Although we may not want the rain, it is necessary to test our faith, develop our patience, and increase our dependence on God. Many of us think that once we are in Christ, we can avoid the rain, but that is unrealistic. The rain will come, but at some point the sun will shine again. God will get us through our ordeal. I don’t care how many days it rains, the sun will reappear and out-number the days of rain by a wide margin. Likewise our good days will far surpass our bad days. And even during the challenges, God pours out His grace so we can tolerate the pressure. Here’s the funny thing about rain, over time we forget about how much we received. After the land dries out and things return to normal, we move on as if it never happened. Similarly, after we face our challenges and God gives us victory, we seem to forget what we’ve gone through. God gives us the strength to move on and we never look like what we’ve been through.

Into each life a little rain will fall, but if we trust God, all will not be lost. We’ll grow stronger in Him. Our good days will far outweigh our bad days. The clouds will go away and the sun will shine again in our lives. We can depend on God to make that happen.
