God Has Given Us a New Nature

July 1 2017

I was recently reading a story about the frog and the scorpion. The scorpion wanted to get to the other side of the pond, but knew he could not get there by himself. So he asked the frog if he would transport him. The frog replied that we would as long as the scorpion promised not to sting him. The scorpion agreed.

The scorpion boarded the back of the frog. And as the frog approached land on the other side, the scorpion did not keep his word and stung him. As the poisonous venom spread throughout his body and right before the frog died, he asked the scorpion why he didn’t keep his promise. The scorpion said, “It is just in me to sting you”. What he was really saying was that I wanted to keep my promise, but it is in my nature to do what I did. I couldn’t help myself. It is what I do.

Before we accept Jesus as Lord over our life, it is just in us to sin. It is a part of our nature and it is what we do. So we can’t help ourselves. I don’t care how many times we say we won’t do a certain thing any longer or that we are going to change, it is not within us to do it. God has to give us a new nature in order for us to transform. That’s why the word declares that if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature. The new nature in us cannot sin. Old things have passed away.

When we look around and see all of the bizarre things that people are doing right before our eyes, we have to understand that it is just in their nature. That doesn’t make it right, but until the perpetrators receive the nature of God in their hearts, they will continue committing acts of violence and all sorts of crime.

Our responsibility is to pray for the lost that they might be saved and delivered by Jesus Christ. The person with the worst character in the world can be changed. They can receive the new nature and become a new creature. No one is beyond the reach of the Almighty God.
