Graduations

June 1 2017

I had the pleasure of seeing my two grandchildren graduate from their respective schools this year. They are moving to the next level on their education journey. It was such a joy to see all of the children who were progressing. The programs were a delight. The parents were proud and many disobeyed the instructions of the leaders when they were told to hold their applause until the end. They were proud and could not control themselves.

As I sat and watched those young boys and girls, I couldn’t help but wonder where these children would end up in life. How many of them would complete high school and how many would go on to pursue post high school degrees? I didn’t spend time trying to do statistical research on the internet even though I am sure some information is available. I also wondered how many of them attend church and have been taught about God. I know we place a lot of emphasis on secular education and rightfully so, but we should also make sure that our children are educated about God.

The Bible declares in the book of Deuteronomy that we should diligently teach our children about God every chance we get. We have become so busy with other activities that the commandment from God does not make the priority list. As a result, our children are not progressing when it comes to their knowledge of God. Hence they are suffering with spiritual dwarfism and perish for lack of knowledge.

As parents and grandparents, we have to do a better job of talking about God with our children. At some point in their lives they will need a relationship with Him. And the sooner they know who He is and the value He brings to their lives, the better off they will be.

I know they appreciate all of the gifts that are presented to them at graduation, but they are temporary. However, the gift of the knowledge of God will lead to godliness and that is eternal.
