Past Decisions

December 1 2017

Have you ever looked back over your life and regretted some of the decisions you made? Have you ever thought, if I had just one more chance, I would do things differently? Sometimes these decisions of the past haunt us because we are forced to live with the consequences. We can always look back over our past and see the mistakes we made and question our judgement. Some decisions are proof of where our thoughts were during that particular time in our lives. For most people, wisdom increases over time and as it does, we make better quality decisions. And as we acquire more knowledge and experience, we become more proficient with our decision making.

We can’t change the poor decisions that we made in the past, but we can certainly learn from them. Not only can we learn from them, but we can share our experiences with others and keep them from making the same poor decisions that lead to future regrets. Prospectively, we need to run every decision through the grid of God’s Word and if it doesn’t line up, we have our answer. There should never be a compromise when it comes to the Word of God. We should understand that if we decide to travel a different path, our results will also be different. God is willing and able to help us if we allow Him, but He won’t force His way on us. He will permit us to do whatever we want, but will caution us every time.

God has plans to prosper us and lead us to a good and favorable outcome. Therefore, we should take heed to the counsel He provides when we ask His advice on a matter. He will always give us the truth and we should never get His opinion and decide to go against His perfect will. All that will do is lead us to an undesirable outcome.

I’d rather seek God’s counsel and be blessed with an “Isaac” as opposed to doing it my own way and ending with an “Ishmael”. He sees the end from the beginning and that is enough for me.
