We Can Rest on His Shoulders

April 1 2017

Just recently I was returning from an errand and I saw something that caught my attention. I observed a relatively young family walking down the sidewalk in a neighborhood. I could not tell if they were walking as part of their exercise regimen or if they had a destination in mind.

The mother who was holding the hand of her young son, was walking just ahead of the father. The father was pushing a rather big baby carriage and at the same time he had his daughter up on his shoulders. The mother and father seemed rather intense as they walked focusing on achieving the task at hand. The little girl who sat on the shoulders of her father seemed to have a slight smile on her face. As a matter of fact, she seemed to be enjoying herself. After all, she was not walking, but being carried to her destination. It was apparent that she was enjoying this outing.

As they stopped at the crosswalk to pause for the traffic signal, the parents seemed to welcome the quick rest. However, I could tell that the little girl never wanted to stop. After all, she had not exerted any energy.

As I observed this family, I had two thoughts. First, family life is great. What a magnificent thing God did when He created man and woman and gave them the ability to procreate. My second thought was that just as the little girl was riding on her dad’s shoulders, we too can ride on our Father’s shoulders. He will carry us and will never get tired or weary. As we learn to rest on Him, life is more enjoyable and our hearts are full of joy.

Let’s thank God for His amazing support! There is no one like Him.
