You Never Know What People Need to Hear

August 1 2017

I arrived to work at my usual time the other day. I was in an extremely good mood. I had time to study that morning before I left for work, I listened to some of my favorite songs on a CD that I enjoyed as I drove in and I even sang along on some of the songs. I was delighting myself in my worship of the Lord and I just really felt good. That was in spite of some challenges that I was facing. When you delight yourself in the Lord, you have such a peace about everything. You know the challenges are there, but they can’t penetrate you or cause you to bow down to them. To surrender to trials is likened unto giving up on God and I know based on His Word, He will never abandon us. He is right there with us and inside of us. Praise the Lord.

As I entered the building, I had pep in my step as I walked towards the elevator. I got on the elevator along with one other person. I am not one to make small talk on an elevator especially if the other person happens to be a female. I never want that person to feel uncomfortable or feel that I might be flirting. So I usually go to the opposite side of the elevator and look down at the floor until one of us arrive at our point of destination. However, on this particular day, I felt led to say something to the person that occupied the elevator with me. When the Holy Spirit prompts me to speak, I do it without much hesitation because the longer I hesitate, the easier it is to talk myself out of obeying Him. Then the “fish” gets away.

Here’s all I said to the other rider, “well the Lord has blessed us with yet another day”. You would have thought that I had said something really deep and profound. It brought the biggest smile to her face, almost to the point where her countenance shined with joy. Her reply was “you are so right and things are really good in the grand scheme of things”. She departed the elevator with what I perceived was a load lifting off of her.

As we worship the Lord and sing songs and hymns unto Him, our hearts will be merry and we can share that joy with someone else. After all, you never know what a person needs to hear. You might be the one who can provide encouragement for someone who is in a dry season.
