The Entrance of Thy Word Giveth Light
June 1 2021
I was sitting in my office reading the other day when I noticed that I did not have sufficient lighting. It was early morning so I opened the blinds to allow the sunlight to enter. Just as soon as I turned the wand on the blinds, the light entered and removed the darkness. It gave the room a totally different appearance and feel.
Psalm 119 is the longest Psalm in the Bible. There are 168 verses in this one Psalm. Verse 130 states the entrance of thy word giveth light. As soon as the word of God enters into our hearts and takes root, it enlightens us and provides understanding. It causes us to pause and look at things from a totally different perspective. What we may have thought was morally right is challenged by the truth of God’s word. The way we treat each other, our lack of integrity, our corrupt character and our propensity to just think about only ourselves is carefully evaluated in light of God’s word. Our entire lives are changed as a result of the illumination of our souls.
The study of God’s word increases our understanding and with that understanding, change takes place in our hearts. The old things pass away and we start to live a life that will lead us to be with our Father in heaven. The entrance of His word removes the darkness and light shines in. The light creates a renewed mind and a new way of thinking. Pride is extinguished and humility is birthed. Over time, the things in this world are less important and the Kingdom of God becomes the highest priority in our lives.
For those of us who have experienced the entrance of God’s word, we know the difference it has made in our lives. Now we need to make sure that others have the same opportunity to enjoy this same spiritual experience. We can assist with this by sharing the good news of the gospel. As new believers are taught the truth, the entrance of the word will give light. Then change can start as minds are renewed and lives are transformed. Thank God for His word.
