Obeying others is not always a natural act. It requires lowering ourselves and yielding ourselves to command of others. Some of us are better at this than others. If we perceive that someone is a peer, it is really hard to submit and follow their lead. On the other hand, if the individual is renowned, has good reputation, or is a recognized leader, it is easier to comply.

In the Book of Luke, Chapter 5, Jesus sat down inside a boat to teach the people who had come to hear Him. He entered Simon’s boat and asked him to push out a little from the land. Then He taught them the Word.

When He was done, He told Simon to launch out into the deep and let down his nets for a catch. Simon and his team had worked hard all night, but they had caught nothing. You could sense his frustration in the way he responded to Jesus. In spite of his distress, he obeyed Him and the result was a great multitude of fish that were caught. As a matter of fact, there were so many fish caught that they broke his net. Simon actually had to call his partners in the other ship for help. What a great problem to have.

On that day, a miracle occurred because of Simon’s obedience to Jesus’ request. Not only was he blessed, but so were the others that were associated with him. Jesus uses the leaders that He chooses to direct His people. We see this pattern throughout the entire Bible. Our level of spiritual maturity along with how much pride we carry, will determine how we respond to leadership. The Bible is clear that we should obey those that have rule over us and submit ourselves unto them. He never asked us to approve the leaders, He said to “obey”. When we do, we are positioning ourselves for a miracle to take place in our lives. God never waste words. Everything He says is for our good.

Do God a favor and move your flesh out of the way so that He can bless you and others that may be associated with you. Let the world see and know that God is alive and that He still performs miracles.
