Don't Get Happy When Your Enemy Suffers

December 1 2014

At one point in our lives we have all felt wronged by someone or some institution. An injustice was done to us and it made us feel really bad, but we had no recourse. No court of appeals so to speak. Hence, we are left feeling discouraged and perhaps even distressed and distraught.

We may have poured our hearts out together in prayer and said to Him do you see what it is being done to me? How can you allow this to happen to me without any intervention? Still there is no reply or any indication that something will be done to deliver you from your pain and suffering. What a feeling of helplessness!

Time passes and your pain has waned and you have just about forgotten about the incident altogether. Then all of a sudden you hear that something bad has happened to the person or the institution that wronged you. You immediately jump for joy because you think they finally got what they deserved. Well not so fast! Take a look at Proverbs 24:17-18. It says, “Rejoice not when thine enemy falleth, and let not thine heart be glad when he stumbleth: Lest the Lord see it, and it displease him, and he turn away his wrath from him.
