Let Everything That Hath Breath Praise The Lord

June 1 2018

I found myself at a symphony the other day. I did not receive a formal invitation. It was for whoever wanted to attend, and the seating was unlimited. You see, I was outside enjoying my daily jog right before dawn. As the daylight started to appear and I could see the clouds in the sky, I noticed what probably has been taking place since the world was created, a natural symphony by the birds. The Bible declares that the fowl of the air became a part of creation on the fifth day. I would assume that on that day, the birds started singing and have been singing ever since.

As I listened to them, I noticed at least ten different sounds or what I would call instruments. I am sure there were more, but what I took notice of was the harmonious and peaceful melodies.

As I listened intently to the chirping and whistling, I couldn’t help but think, they are praising God. I found that interesting considering they didn’t even know where their next meal was coming from. It didn’t seem to matter. The only thing that seemed important at that very moment was to be loud and cheerful. The sounds came from all four directions and that is when the Scripture came to mind, “Let everything that hath breath, praise the Lord”. These little creatures with their small brains and big hearts knew how to praise the God of creation.

The birds can’t read and act on Scripture. They act instinctively. We are the only part of creation that was given that ability. Hence, we should take note of what was written. The last verse in the last Psalm encourages us to praise God. As long as there is breath in our bodies, let us praise Him.
