Are You Having Fun

When I was a little boy, I loved helping my father wash the car. He would do all of the soaping and I did the rinsing. I vividly recall an occasion where I was spraying the water on the car without realizing that I was soaking him at the same time. What was probably a chore for him was a whole lot of fun for me. I got a chance to spend time with the man I admired. As I grew, I was able to do both the soaping and the rinsing under his supervision. I was having fun and it did not cost me anything except a little time and effort.

As Christians we should have fun just as we did when we were kids. We don’t have to be so serious and spiritual all the time. God intended for us to have fun and enjoy life. The Bible declares that laughter does good like medicine. We should look for opportunities to have fun and create a happy environment in our homes.

I have two brothers and we bowl competitively once a month. We each have our own balls and shoes. And believe it or not, it cost us less than $20 for the three of us to bowl a total of nine games; three per person. We laugh the entire time we are bowling and give a lot of praise to one another for consecutive strikes and difficult spares. I don’t recall a single time where God chastised me for laughing so hard.

My wife and children can tell you that I have so much fun looking for the right opportunity to scare them. I hide and jump out when they least expect it, or I quickly grab them as I call their names. I love to see the fear on their faces as their hands fly in the air. It always ends in us laughing and them pleading with me not to do it again.

If you are not having fun, start today. Find ways to do simple fun things and you’ll see that life isn’t so bad. Your problems will take a back seat to fun and you will enjoy the ride of life.
