Covenant Keeper

April 1 2019

I was on my way to a golf outing recently when I missed my turn. I had to continue down the street for a ways before I could find an entrance to turn around. When I turned into the subdivision I immediately saw a large brick pillar that had a sign attached that said “This is a Covenant Protected Community”. There was another sign that read, “Cars parked on the street overnight will be booted”. I thought wow! For me this is the kind of community I would love to live in because it strictly enforces the provisions of the covenant. Where there is no vision the people perish. In other words, where there is no revelation of God people will commit crimes and other sins. In this case, where there are no restrictions, people will do anything that pleases them. But not in this community. For some, this is a little too much, but before you move there, you already know what to expect and if it is too much, find another place that is more flexible and suits your needs.

God’s covenant operates similar to the community covenant. We enter into this covenant relationship with God through His Son. Just as the community covenant protects the residents and provides certain benefits, so does God’s covenant. All we have to do is comply with the terms of the covenant and leave the rest up to Him. At first, we may think that the covenant is too restrictive, but when we understand the benefits, our perspective changes. There are precious promises in His covenant. The neighborhood covenant makes the residents proud when they see the restrictions being enforced. They know that it is working for their common good and preserves property values. Likewise, Christians rejoice when they see our spiritual covenant at work. Especially when grace and mercy are poured out on us. Then they know that God’s covenant is working for their common good and lives are preserved.

It is truly amazing what God will do if we just obey His Word. Every promise He has made will be fulfilled. And He will not withhold any good thing from us. We thank the Lord God that he is both a covenant making and covenant keeping God. He is truly amazing.
