Expectations

As Christians we have the expectation that God will answer our prayers. This is what the Word of God tells us and what preachers declare from the pulpit. Hence, we look forward to and with great anticipation the manifestation of the thing(s) we desire. Thus, it becomes disconcerting when it appears that God is not interested in our hearts’ desires. Our conclusion about His lack of interest comes because we don’t see any results. How do we keep trusting and maintaining our relationship with Him, if according to our perspective He fails to meet our expectations? After all isn’t He supposed to give us what we want if we ask in His name and according to the word?

Many devout Christians get to a point where they give up on God because they don’t see where their expectations are ever going to be realized. Where is my husband? Where is my new job? Where is my financial blessing? Where is my healing? Many hopes are dashed and life takes a different turn and typically for the worse. Is God at fault or is it us throwing a tantrum because we are not getting what we asked for in the time frame we want? One thing we know for sure, God is never at fault because He is perfect in all His ways.

It is not wrong for us to have these expectations of God, but we do have to wait until He gives us our desires in His perfect timing. The key words are “His perfect timing”. He has never failed to deliver on His promises. There are things that we don’t understand, but our trust in God should never waver. If we diligently seek Him, He will reward us. Some things don’t turn out the way we want them to, but God’s record of wins is and always will be perfect. He sees the end from the beginning. Let’s stay encouraged and continue to believe that the thing(s) that we are looking forward to shall come to pass. Continue to trust in the Lord and be of good courage. The Lord never withholds any good thing from us.
