I Almost Used Diesel

October 1 2019

I am very much a creature of habit. Sometimes that can be good, but it can also be bad if you don’t pay attention when things around you change. I always put gasoline in my wife’s car so that she doesn’t have to do it. I typically purchase it from the same station because it is convenient and the price is competitive. On this particular day when the gas indicator light illuminated, I was the driver and I was on the north side of town. I stopped at a station that I had some familiarity with, but it wasn’t my usual place. I went through the normal protocol to purchase the gasoline, but I noticed that when I put the nozzle in the hole, it did not fit. I did what we normally do, I tried again, but got the same results. When I started looking at why this nozzle was different, I realized that I was about to put diesel fuel in the tank. Ergo the reason for the nozzle not going in smoothly. If I had pumped the gas anyway, I would have damaged the engine and incurred costly repairs.

When we don’t pay attention to details, it can prove costly for us. We can experience the same unpleasant consequence if we fail to give proper consideration to the details of God’s Word. It can lead to major disasters in our lives. There are over 600,000 divinely inspired words in the Bible. That gives us an idea of how detailed God is. And He intended for us to pay attention to them. In His Word is life and therefore we have to spend quality time in the details and that requires studying every day. Don’t be in a hurry to rush past what you don’t understand. It might be just what you need in the days ahead.
