The Lack of Stability

January 1 2019

As we come to the close of another year, I think we can describe 2018 as anything but usual. We have seen historic hurricanes, extreme violence against innocent people, an increase in racial disharmony, wildfires in California, wild rides on Wall Street, a government that seems dysfunctional at times and the fall of powerful men who took unfair advantage of women with their unwanted sexual advances. We even saw one of our most popular television stars convicted of charges that he drugged women to have sex with them. At times things seemed so out of control.

I believe that what we see is what the Bible warns us of, “things will wax worse and worse”. Some would argue that things are not so bad, but I beg to differ with anyone who has that perspective. We can look for the silver lining, but we can’t deny what is reality or the severity of the things we see occurring in the world today.

This is not an attack on our government, but I would submit that our nation is lacking sublime leadership. Where there is dishonesty and immorality, the nation topples. I personally find it hard to place my confidence in the world system. There is just too much instability. Our faith must be in the Lord, Jesus Christ and Him alone. Despite what we see, He is the sovereign God and He still reigns and has control over the entire universe. He is our hope.

So how do we help create more stability? The answer is simple, we must pray for our government and its leadership and all the inhabitants of the earth. It is our responsibility to use the power of prayer to change things. If we want different results, we can’t sit around and complain, we must pray and then where we can, get involved to change things. Faith without works is dead. The Bible declares that Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord and the King’s heart is in His hands and as the rivers of water, He turns it in the direction He desires. So, it is incumbent upon us to pray that this nation belongs to God, the people belong to God, and that the heart of our leaders is turned in the right direction.

I am expecting an “Amazing God” to do Amazing things in 2019. I place my trust in Him because I know He can and will do above what we ask or think.
