Are You Preparing for Death

I know this title sounds kind of morbid, but we spend most of our lives preparing for something. Preparation is key for advancing in life and for being successful in our various endeavors.However, we don’t think much about preparing for death. The Bible tells us that it is appointed once for every man to die. So why aren’t we preparing or why are we delaying our preparation? In the month of February alone, I personally know of four individuals who died and three of them were people I have known most of my life. I don’t believe any of them knew that death was at the door. It happened rather suddenly. I certainly don’t think Kobe Bryant, his daughter and the seven other passengers that boarded the helicopter that Sunday morning ever thought for a moment it would be their last day on earth.

It is the Lord’s desire that none should perish, but all should come into the knowledge of the Truth. He makes it easy for us to prepare for death. All He requires is for us to start the process by accepting Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. And then establish an ongoing relationship with Him by becoming a disciple. Being a disciple means that we study and obey God’s word, live a life full of faith, spend time in prayer, attend bible study, church services and share the good news of the gospel. As we develop and increase in knowledge, we are transformed into His image by His Spirit who lives in us. Not only does He live in us, but He guides and teaches us.

While death is not something we like to think about, we must because contrary to what many think, it is not the end. When we die we’ll either spend eternity with God or eternity in Hell. By preparing for death, we can avoid eternity in the Lake of Fire. Don’t wait to start preparing. Start today and make Christ your life. In the end, you’ll be glad you did.
