God Never Changes

March 1 2017

It is spring again and you can see nature responding. The trees are starting to reveal new foliage, shrubbery is showing signs of new life, the grass is coming out of its sleep and greening up and the weather now has more warm days than cool ones. I am always amazed that nature consistently knows when it is time to shed its winter coat and put on spring and summer clothing. When God created the heavens and the earth, he set the seasons in motion and that has never changed. Nothing that God has created has any variability except man’s behavior. When you consider the universe, it has never changed. The sun still heats the earth and the moon still possesses its brilliant light that illuminates the night sky. And all of it is being held together by the power of His Word.

Although we live in a world of constant change, the one constant is God. The Bible declares that there is no variableness or shadow of turning in Him. In other words, he is immutable; He does not change. He is the same yesterday, today and forevermore. That is an absolute benefit for all of us that are born again and connected to Him. We need that stability in our lives and God offers it to each and every one of us.

When a man wakes up in the morning, he is capable of changing how he conducts himself. His interaction with people can be based on how he feels or what he may be reacting to emotionally that day. God Himself is not of human origin and therefore He is not capable of the same kind of inconsistent and unstable behavior. His love for us never changes.

When I consider the world today, and everything that I see taking place, I don’t feel secure. Things continue to be very different. The thoughts of people are very different and what was intolerable a while back seems to be becoming the norm. That concerns me and it should get all of our attention. Some things I can change with my right to vote and some things I can change with my fervent prayers. I exercise my right to do both. And while I wait for the manifestation of both privileges, I anchor my soul in the Lord. If He can hold the universe together with the power of His Word, I know He can hold me together during these unusual changing times. I take refuge in the one who never changes and my soul is anchored in Him.
