What Causes You to Become Angry

November 1 2017

We have all pet peeves. Things that really get under our skin and cause us to become angry or irritated. I can honestly tell you that one of the things that used to bother me was when someone would give me their word and then renege without any discussion or explanation for the change in what they promised. Another pet peeve for me was when someone accused me falsely of something that I said or did not do. My first reaction was to vehemently deny the accusation. Then I would become irritated because the person(s) would not retract his or her statement. What would really cause a fire inside of me was when assertions were spewed recklessly and with extreme arrogance and confidence.

I can vividly recall an instance where a statement was made publicly and the person looked at me as if to say I am talking to you. I knew what was being said did not apply to me, but because of the position the person held, I am not sure that it did not create some level of suspicion about me by those who heard it. That day I felt helpless.

It takes the Holy Spirit living on the inside of us to control us and keep us from saying and doing things out of our hurt and disappointment. No one wants to be mistreated. I have learned with the help of the Holy Spirit to rise above what people do or say. They are not accountable to me, but to God. And we all have to give an account of what we have done one day.

I take my example from Jesus who was falsely accused of blasphemy. As He was being crucified, He said “Father, forgive them for they know not what they do”.
